The Cure for Seeing a Scary Movie

Hello all you happy people,

My wife and I went and saw the movie Paranormal Activity 3 last night.  I am a man that prides myself in being able to go see most any horror film and be able to dream about puppies and rainbows when I go to bed.  But I feel no shame in saying that all three for the Paranormal Activity movies kinda freaked me out (they aren't lying when they say that they are some of the scariest movies you've ever seen).  Seeing the third movie in theaters probably made it even worse.
After we got home we REALLY needed to find something to do before we went to sleep.  So we decided to disperse our fears like any red, white, and blue loving Americans.... by drowning them with a little bit of C2H5OH(alcohol).  The way I see it is that fear is like a germ, and that alcohol kills it.  However, because of the level of freakiness of this movie, we figured that we may need yet another means to combat the heeby-jeebies.  So we watched a few episodes of The Big Bang Theory.
These activities seemed to work for me because I didn't have any trouble falling asleep.  And if I did have any bad dreams they must have been so traumatizing that my subconscious blocked them from my memory.  Can't say the same for my wife though.  Apparently she couldn't sleep for two hours last night because she was too scared.  Poorest ever one.
Well, that's all for know.
Thanks for reading.

Baseball Making Me Nervious

Hello all you happy people,

OK... so... you all knew that eventually I would have to write some kind of sports post, and now is that time.  Currently I am watching game six of the World Series, and it's STRESSING ME OUT!!!  So to relieve some stress I am going to grace you with my presence and blog about some baseball.
Being from Chicago (and being a REAL sports fan) I and naturally a Cubs fan.  If you consider this, you can extrapolate that I would not want St. Louis (being that they are one of our biggest rivals) to be victorious.  But as hard as I have tried to root for Texas, I keep finding myself cheering for St. Louis.  WEIRD, RIGHT???
So currently the game is tied 9 - 9 in the bottom of the 11th inning.  I have accepted the fact that I hope St. Louis will win, so lets just see how will win.
St. Louis just won :)
Now maybe I can go to bed.
I'm gonna try to do better with getting blogs up (thinking about 3-4 per week), so thank you for reading and your patience.

Be a Man Monday: Cursing

Hello all you happy people,

One of the topics I wanted to talk about on my blog is what I think it means to be a man (so take notes boys).  These posts can be found on Mondays, hopefully every week, and shall be christened "Be a Man Monday."  I certainly hope to meet you back here every Monday.  So let's plop down on the couch, turn on the football game, open some beers, and talk like men.
Today, I would like to talk about cursing.  I got the desire to talk about this topic when my family and I were out furniture shopping.  While in the store, we observed a "gentleman" being all around rude to his wife, and cursing at/around his children.  That's when it hit me... Is this what we think is the image of manliness?
This certainly won't how I was brought up, and is definitely not how my children will be raised.  As a man, I believe it is my job to make sure that my children grow up to be good people.  Part of this is being able to set a good example (there will be no "Do as I say, not as I do").  I must teach them to be respectful to others, esspecially toward their loved ones.  I need to be the one that will teach my son how to act toward his wife.  If I can't be respectful toward my wife, how am I to expect him to be any different.  We fathers have such a huge roll in shaping our children's future.  It is a huge resposibility and is not something we can reject because your afraid all the other guys will think you're weak.
And so, I now present to you my recession-proof buisiness idea!!!  All you women out there!!!  Is your man being disrespectful toward you or using foul launguage around your kids?  If so, for the low low price for $5 (plus travel expence) I will come to your house and kick your man in the Rio de Janeiros so hard that he will completely forget those words even exist!!!!
Anyway, thanks for reading, and BE A MAN!!!!

Up Too Early

Hello all,

It's about 6:30AM as I'm writing this and I would normally be sleeping, but it seems the universe had different plans for me this morning.  On any normal morning my daughter (who shall be named Cupcakes for the time being [as that is what my wife calls her on her blog]) will wake up around 6:45 to 7:00 to eat.  My wife is the one who gets up to feed her, as I am not equipped to perform such a task, and I get to continue my glorious dreams.  My wife is good enough to let me sleep in for about another hour, because I work late, and I end up dragging my cranky behind out of bed around 8:30ish.
Today, however, I was not afforded this luxury.  I work as a security officer at a local gaming establishment and am sometimes lucky enough to pick up an extra shift.  Over a week ago I signed up for an early shift for today which would require me to wake up around 5:30 this morning.  However, I was not even afforded the luxury of sleeping in this late because Cupcakes decided that sleep is overrated(oh how she'll change her mind after nap time is no longer on the schedule) and woke up at about 4:45.  So I spent most of the time before I left trying (unsuccessfully) to sooth her back to sleep.  That's not even the best part.  I eventually have to give up to leave for work and I head out the door to the sound of my baby's cry.  As I get about a quarter of the way to work, I get a phone call from one of my bosses that they don't need the extra help today.  Apparently they figured this out several days ago but neglected to tell me till now.
I am now sitting in my living room (awake) afraid to go into my bedroom because it sounds like she may have gone back to sleep.  Maybe I'll try to sleep out here for a little bit before everyone else in this house decides to get up.

Thanks for reading :)

I Believe Introductions Are In Order

Hello everyone,

Congratulations on finding your way to my new blog.  I believe it's safe to say that you life journey has reached it's apex at this point.  Unfortunately it's probably downhill from here (but that's the best part o any roller coaster,  so enjoy the ride).  But be that as it may, it is truly good to see you.
So maybe I should tell you a little about me.  My name is Calvin and I am a loving husband and proud father of a beautiful 10 month old daughter.  I was born and raised in a town in Montana, but currently live in the Chicago-land area.  And I'm sure we'll get to know each other better throughout our time together.
And here is what you can expect to find on this blog.  Fatherhood is the main topic, complete with lots of adorable pictures and stories.  You'll hear about my wonderful wife (who is a fellow blogger), and what she's up too.  I'll tell you what is happening in my life and what it really means to be a man.  And I'll fill your seeing holes with all the other things of this world that I think you absolutely need to know.
We'll laugh together, we'll cry together, and we'll have fun together.  Thank you for letting my sunny side of the world into your life and I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I will enjoy writing it.
